A Painting by Frank Krueger

  • PDF

Frank Krueger was a friend. Some months after his death on July 27, 2003 I asked his wife for one of his many paintings in order to remember his quest. Out of a huge volume of art I chose a simple watercolor painting. It is the one that opens my Web site.

This painting is about our psyche. The painting is a vision of our inside living and its consequences. We live inside out. It is a metaphorical painting of Who are you? The painting depicts an inner life in each of us. It is on a vision quest that either enthrones an era of corruption or to enact judgment. We are caught internally between the promise and its betrayal. To enact the promise of judgment; it is our Declaration of happiness. To enact corruption; it is our Declaration of―slow internal death.

My book Ann of Green Pastures―The inner world of Ann Sultana identifies exactly with this painting. How so? Ann is the nude child. The nude child is a metaphor of a judgmental internal life. The child has not taken on the outer garments of the corrupt world. The outer garments are black; the metaphor is the ?living dead.?  The ?light beam? is the metaphor that draws attention to the true Way of Life. Finally the nude child plants! The nude child reaches out to give life not accumulating material things. The nude child does not turn back into self like the ?living dead? in the upper left corner.

Therefore, the main function of this metaphorical painting is instructional―how to live inside out. We must be on an inner vision quest toward graced-filled-relationships. That is, we must plant ourselves into others. We must become nude action heroes. Without this attempt of living inside out; we become monsters to ourselves and others―dressed in black.

The key is the enactment of judgment. Judgment is the inner reflective prophetic voice. It keeps you nude―untainted. To live in judgment of self is to: Provoke yourself, as you would have others be provoked.
